New Backstory for .Hack

With a lose of active members CC Corp began to have financial problems resulting in the loss of many of its employees. Because of this a rumor began to spread around about how The World might have to be shut down. As a last minute attempt to save themselves they contacted the leader of the largest player group, The Crimson Knights, and asked him to do anything that he could to attract people to the game. While he did a number of small things to full fill his obligation to CC Corp but was working the entire time on larger more drastic changes behind their backs. While it took him a long time eventually all of the work was done and he released his new improvements to The World. He made sure to distinguish all of the improvements by having everything from him followed by R:2 in its title and the things from before having R:1. While nothing was removed he manged to add a number of servers and fields along with character classes.

It didn't take long for CC Corp to become aware of these changes and when they tried to take the new things offline they found that they weren't able to so instead had to embrace them. While they had a lot of arguments and bad blood with Rumor eventually things worked out and the servers worked seamlessly in the game. The only major change that CC Corp made was when older players wanted to convert to the new classes but keep there levels. In order to do this they allowed Rumor full access and the ability to change peoples classes from R:1 to R:2 at will.
