Susan walked through the empty roads weaving her way through the decrepit ruins of what used to be the largest of the British Library branches. Now the place was nothing but a reminder of what had been when almost everyone around the world knew and respected the organization. Instead of letting the branch be rebuilt after its mysterious destruction Rumor had left the buildings as they stood claiming that he needed to have a reminder. What he wanted to remind himself of was never shared with anyone in the organization though so they did what needed to be and followed their leader without hesitation. Now Susan was forced to be there once more dressed fully in black leading six other paper masters and the forty two corpses that floated above the ground encased in pitch black paper coffins. She knew little about what the branch had done before its destruction and probably even less of what purpose it currently served. She had heard from a few of the other members that it was thought that the building hid a large catacomb that was reserved as a final resting place for all of the members that died in service to the library throughout its history. She had never before been asked to escort the bodies here but once instructed to do so she was approached by these specific six paper masters that she had never even seen before. They all wore identical black cloaks with hoods that completely hid their faces from view. The only thing she was able to tell was that their main leader was apparently a male due to his voice and that she suspected that two of them in the group were female due to their physique.
She was pointed to a lone building that stood defiantly against the ruble around it its walls untouched by the destruction or age. The building was a giant black structure that dominated the center of the branch with large windows that were catching the last light of the dying day. It was an impressive building and she knew it held some kind of ominous secret as did most of the surrounding probably.
"Well lets go then" She said guiding the six coffins she controlled behind her through the two large metal doors. The inside of the building was probably even more confusing then the outside had been. Standing around inside of the building were humans seemingly frozen in place their mundane activities forever preserved while they stood like statues around the room. There was a couple sitting on a couch near a fire place their lips just barely touching as a shy smile graced the lips of the young girl. A little way from them stood a tall man his body frozen mid stride as he seemingly had been walking with some kind of purpose a smaller women following behind him looking like she had been caught while reading to him from the clipboard she still held in her hands. Still more people were caught like that the last moments of their lives forever on display for everyone to see.
Susan gulped uncomfortably moving herself and the coffins around the people trying her best not to disturb their final resting place. She was led to the other side of the room and down a flight of stairs that only held two young boys that were frozen during their running down the stair case. They slowly spiraled downward until the group reached the bottom Susan loosing count as to how many stories they had gone down around the hundred mark. She looked at the door the others had stopped before and gasped lightly. Etched into the doors were two men each with a blind fold over their eyes. One of the members in the cloaks that Susan had not spoken to yet moved forward to the door laying their hands on the two hands of the etched men that met in the center of the doors locking them in place. The girl began chanting softly a light glow emanating from her hands as the hands beneath her began to move apart the fingers of the carvings struggling to stay together until the last moment when the doors swung open separating the two.
No one in the party was prepared for what laid on the other side of the doors and the girl that had opened them didn't even have enough time to scream before hands reached out from the darkness and dragged her back with them followed by snapping and tearing along with the disgusting noise of something being bitten into.
